The beaches on Anguilla are truly special, with endless stretches of glorious white sands. Combine that with fabulous luxury hotels and you can look forward to a perfect holiday of relaxation and indulgence. The restaurant scene in Anguilla has long been the envy of neighbouring Caribbean islands, and it just keeps getting better. Here are a few of our favourite restaurants to tempt you...
Straw Hat
Straw Hat is perched on a deck overlooking Meads Bay, an area which is becoming a dining hot spot on the island. The restaurant is one of Anguilla’s most popular dining experiences and has been something of an institution among visitors to Anguilla for the past 17 years. It was recently named as one of the Caribbean’s top 10 restaurants by Fodor’s, and the menu combines ‘favourites’ (items too popular with their regular guests to ever remove!) with exciting, ever-changing daily specials featuring fresh local seafood and produce from their own garden.
Blanchards Beach Shack
BBS opened in December 2011 and is located on the beautiful Meads Bay Beach, right next door to the renowned Blanchards Restaurant. A more casual dining option, they serve all time favourites such as lobster rolls and spicy jerk chicken sandwiches, but still with the excellent quality that Blanchards Restaurant is known for. This is just a more 'toes in the sand' alternative!
Veya
A fine dining restaurant in a magical 'Indonesian treehouse', Veya has been attracting rave reviews since opening on the island in 2007. The Pennsylvania chef-owners call their food the 'cuisine of the sun', and it's an inventive fusion of exotic flavours from hot spots around the globe, from Moroccan-spiced shrimp 'cigars' to vanilla-cured duck in guavaberry sauce.
Dolce Vita
One of the newest additions to the dining scene on Anguilla is Dolce Vita. Fast gaining a reputation for the finest and freshest Italian cuisine on the island, this buzzing, open air, white washed restaurant brings some contemporary flair to the shores of Sandy Ground. Dine on freshly made pasta whilst taking in stunning views of the yachts in the bay.
Jacala
Alain Laurent and Jacques Borderonn, already a well-known chef and maître d’ duo on the island, have created one of Anguilla’s must-try places; a French restaurant at the eastern end of Meads Bay Beach, in an open-sided dining room. The über cool restaurant is almost entirely white with just a few splashes of colour in the form of fabulous oversized beach cushions, offering the ultimate ocean views.
Sandbar
Sandbar is one of Anguilla’s most popular beachfront hangouts, serving tasty tapas and cool cocktails. A contemporary Caribbean beach bar with its heart in the right place, with every drink or meal that customers purchase they will be making a donation to protecting Anguilla’s greatest asset – its famous white sand and clear blue sea. The soothing interior features furniture made from drift wood as well as sea and sand artworks. There are two stylish bars – one seemingly made of pebbles and the other of reclaimed and sanded wood.
