There are so many Caribbean restaurants to choose from in London, so we thought we would share our favourites with you. From Jamaican inspired burgers at Boom Burger, to Soursop juice at the Jamaica Patty Co. we have it covered! With our Jamaica fortnight happening now, it’s the perfect time to get excited about this beautiful and vibrant destination.
The Jamaica Patty Co. was a response to the lack of high quality Jamaican food in the UK. The founder Theresa Roberts decided to launch the Jamaica Patty Co. so that Londoners can enjoy the fresh and authentic flavours of Jamaica here in the UK.
All the patties are baked freshly in store, our favourite is the Ackee and Saltfish, with a delicious slice of Tortuga Rum Cake to finish. It is also one of the only places in the UK which sells fresh Soursop juice, a widely enjoyed Jamaican drink. This particular juice is renowned for having a variety of health benefits, as well as being truly delicious!
Dub Jam is a small Caribbean restaurant and rum shack. A hidden gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Leicester Square. The interior is a fun mixture of bold colours, with Bob Marley blasting from the speakers, and a fresh and vibrant menu; what more would you want! Our favourite pick from the menu is the plantain chips and the Jamaican jerk skewers.
Fish Wings + Tings is located in Brixton Market. It is famous for serving the lesser known delicacies of the Caribbean. For example they serve Shark and Bake, which is made from small pieces of shark fillet in a fried dough ball. They also give a whole new face to beer batter using Red Stripe!
Rudies serves authentic Jamaican food with a contemporary twist. The team have spent a long time on the ground in Jamaica sampling Jamaican cuisine, and now have perfected the perfect jerk process, from the way you cut the meat, to the different spices used. Rudie’s has a small but carefully curated menu, our favourite picks are the jerk calamari with coriander & lime dip and the real jerk chicken with hot papaya sauce.
The owner of Boom Burger, Josh, spent much of his childhood in Montego Bay; now he is combining these vibrant and exciting flavours with delicious British beef, and bringing them straight to Portobello road.
The perfectly spiced patties adorn the menu, from ‘Fish Boom’, pan fried red snapper with rocket and jerk mayo, to a more classic ‘boom burger’ which is served with bacon jam!
Ma Petit Jamaica is London’s first Caribbean diner, located in the heart of Camden town. There is a delicious selection on the menu, our favourite pick is the Spiced Rum & coconut chicken with wild mushrooms and basmati rice, and to finish coconut & jam sponge cake with vanilla ice cream. Ma petit Jamaica is very laid back, the perfect place to relax and unwind while enjoying delicious hearty food.
The Rum Kitchen, offers a contemporary twist on traditional Caribbean food. With two locations one in Notting Hill, the other in Soho. It is the perfect place to enjoy a delightfully innovative style of Caribbean cuisine. Our favourite pick from the menu is the jerk halloumi burger with smashed avocado. We suggest trying the slightly unusual but delicious ‘La Isla Bonita’ cocktail infused with spiced yam and sweet potato puree.
